From THE NEW YORK TIMES:

The authorities are mulling whether to charge a Boy Scoutleader who knocked over an ancient desert rock formation and the two men who cheered him on after they posted video of the incident online. Two of the men, who were leading a group of 14- to 16-year-old scouts on a trip, said the top of the rock formation was loose and they feared it was dangerous. “This is about saving lives,” said Dave Hall, who shot the video. “One rock at a time.” The eerie, mushroom-shaped rock formation at Goblin Valley State Park is about 170 million years old, said a state parks spokesman, Eugene Swalberg. “This is highly, highly inappropriate,” Mr. Swallberg said. “This is not what you do at state parks.”

I guess they hadn’t had their (adult & Scout)Scout Training  for Leave No Trace.

Good going Guys- you destroyed a 170 million rock formation, you taught your Scouts to be Vandals, and you made the rest of the Scouts look like Idiotic Delinquents who have nothing better to do than screw up a Park. Then to defend what you were doing as an Act of Safety/Prevention is only making things worse. Apologise, Teach your Scouts better but don’t make silly excuses trying to justify what you did. Man Up.
